More and more wine enthusiasts are storing larger quantities of wine at home, but why does wine need to be stored vibration-free?

To preserve wine in the best possible conditions, a wine cabinet or wine cellar must meet a number of criteria. Among other things, the wine must be protected from all possible vibrations to ensure its quality.
What happens to wine if you don't store it vibration-free?
We can look at vibration on 2 levels, fine and coarse vibration. We start with the coarse vibrations, everyone can imagine that. This is because we do not want to disturb any sediment in the wine bottle. With coarse vibrations you think of from extremely bad to bad: transporting wine in a (truck) car; storing wine under stairs, near a railroad or busy road. For extreme vibrations, it is good to let the wine rest for a while before opening and drinking it.
Fine vibrations do not directly affect the sediment, but can accelerate the chemical reactions in the wine bottle: vibrations cause energy in the wine bottle and this unwanted activity can affect the aging process. Something we certainly don't want.
How can you avoid vibrations?

Storing wine in a wine cabinet can be a bigger problem if it is not taken into account that the vibrations caused by the compressor can reach the wine bottle. The use of slide-out shelves can also cause vibrations if they do not roll out smoothly.
