Are you the proud owner of a EuroCave wine cabinet? Then of course you want your precious wines to be kept in optimal condition at all times. Proper maintenance of your wine cabinet ensures years of enjoyment and optimal performance. Below you will find useful tips and practical instructions.
1. Carbon filter
In the back wall of your EuroCave wine cabinet there is a carbon filter. This filter purifies the air entering the cabinet and prevents unwanted odors.
Important: replace the filter once a year.
Why? If the filter becomes saturated, it no longer works and air circulation is reduced. In a humid room, the pellets can clump, preventing air circulation. This can lead to improper humidity, stagnant air and, at worst, mold.
2. Heat exchanger
The heat exchanger at the back of your wine cabinet expels hot air. Make sure that the grille is regularly free of dust and that the warm air can flow away freely. This will keep your cabinet operating efficiently and quietly.
3. Drip shelf
EuroCave wine cabinets automatically regulate humidity. Excess moisture is discharged through a small channel at the bottom left.
Problem: A blocked channel (due to an air bubble, dust or small paper) can cause water to remain.
Solution: clean the bottom and use a thin iron wire to gently puncture the channel.
4. Prevent ice formation
The hot and cold circuits run at the back of the cabinet. Make sure your bottles are not directly against the back wall. This prevents accumulation of moisture droplets that can freeze.
Tip: slide your bottles against the back wall and then pull them forward about 1 cm.
5. Shelves
Do you have sliding shelves that run stiffly? You can easily fix this yourself:
- Remove the shelf and place it on a table.
- Loosen the screws (you do not have to remove them completely).
- Move the outer rim slightly inward or outward.
- Screw everything back on and replace the shelf in the cabinet.
6. Wooden shelves
For wooden shelves: check once a year for mold. Mold can develop if the shelf is too close to the back wall and moisture gets onto it.
Solution:
- Check the spacers behind the shelf.
- Make sure the shelf does not touch the back wall.
- Clean the shelf with water and a little vinegar.
7. Mold on wine bottles
Mold can develop on a bottle if it is already contaminated when placed in the cabinet. The climate of the cabinet can allow mold to continue to grow, even on wooden shelves.
Tip: always check new bottles for mold before putting them in the cabinet. If you discover mold, clean the shelf thoroughly (sometimes sanding is necessary) and replace the carbon filter if necessary.
